He is best known for his roles in the films The Last Starfighter (1984), The Sure Thing (1985), and The Lost Boys (1987). Lester began his career in the early 1980s, appearing in a number of television shows and films. He made his feature film debut in the 1984 science fiction classic The Last Starfighter. He then went on to appear in the 1985 romantic comedy The Sure Thing, and the 1987 horror classic The Lost Boys. In the 1990s, Lester began to focus more on writing and producing. He wrote and produced the television series The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. (1993-1994), and wrote and directed the television movie The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.: The Return of the Outlaw (1996). He also wrote and produced the television series The Magnificent Seven (1998-2000). In recent years, Lester has continued to work in television, writing and producing the series The Dead Zone (2002-2007) and Haven (2010-2015).
