When she managed to finish second in the Miss England beauty pageant, she was the first size 12 (US) participant to have achieved such a high finish.

She has done activism work for the England-based charity, Beat, which works to raise awareness about a variety of eating disorders and funds to support those suffering from such disorders.

She is an active supporter of Body Gossip, which is a nonprofit organization that works to empower women with all body shapes through arts and education.

By the age of 15, she had decided that she wanted to become a model. The same year, she signed up with a London-based modeling agency. And, by the age of 16, she had entered the Miss Surrey pageant.

In March 2008, she managed to win the Miss Surrey beauty competition. By winning the title, she also created history as she was the first size 12 (US) model to qualify for Miss England beauty pageant.

When she was competing in Miss England competition, her Body Mass Index was sufficiently high to be classified as overweight, which led to critics accusing Marshall of promoting obesity.

She once said that she “wanted to go through to the Miss England finals to break the stereotype that you have to be tall and skinny to be considered beautiful.”

In her free time, she loves to take her dog for a walk in Central Park in New York.
