Here at CelebMix, we had the opportunity to speak to Lauren about her debut single, her time on ‘The X Factor,’ what she has planned for the future, and more. Keep reading to check out our exclusive interview!
You recently released your debut single ‘Boss Girl.’ What does the single represent for you personally?
”Boss Girl” represents empowerment, strength and determination. For my first single, I wanted something with a message, that both I and anyone that listens to it could relate to. I’m all about GIRL POWER and girls being united and uplifting towards each other, so “Boss Girl” seemed like the perfect fit.’
How does it feel to have your own original music released?
‘I actually can’t explain how it feels to have FINALLY released my own music. It’s like a million emotions all at the same time. This is what I have always wanted. I’m so happy and excited to see what the future holds! I can’t wait!’
Can you talk us through the writing process for ‘Boss Girl’ and other original tracks?
‘I think everyone has their own process for writing tracks. I find it difficult to write stuff all the time; I really feed off energy. I like to have an idea of what I want the song to be about and then I go into the session and vibe it. That’s what works best for me.’
Who are your musical influences?
‘I am a massive Whitney fan! I grew up with her music, she is my idol. I also love Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, all the divas. But currently I really like Anne-Marie and Mabel.’
Do you feel that ‘The X Factor’ was a good platform in the sense of allowing you to build on your musical sound and gaining you a fan base?
‘100%. “The X Factor” gave me the best platform to get my talent out there. I mean for me it was probably my last proper shot at taking singing seriously. It’s what I always wanted to do, but I just thought it would never happen and then it did. And obviously I gained all my amazing fans.’
What is your favourite memory from the time on the show?
‘My favourite memory from the show was probably when I performed “One Last Time” by Ariana Grande. I was supposed to perform a different song, but it was changed just 24 hours before show time and I was so nervous and afraid it could go wrong. But it didn’t and I got my first Top 10 position in the iTunes chart. That was just amazing!’
Are you in contact with any of the other contestants from the series?
‘I was really lucky with my year on “The X Factor” that we all actually got on really well. It’s an experience we all went through together that will never happen again. It’s all good vibes! We don’t talk all the time, but everyone is busy doing their own thing.’
What would you say is your biggest achievement to date and is there anything in particular you would like to achieve?
‘My biggest achievement is finally being able to release my own music. There’s a saying that goes like “if your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough!” There are so, so many things I want to do. But these things take time. Music is what I always want to do. I mean before all of this I was working as a dentist receptionist, so who’s to say dreams don’t come true! You have to believe in yourself, because if you don’t, who will?!’
What else can we expect from you in the coming few months?
‘There is definitely more things to come. Right now, I have just released “Boss Girl.” I’m in the studio all the time working on new material as well. There will definitely be an EP, and hopefully a tour to follow. I literally can’t wait!’
Do you have a message for your supporters?
‘To all my supporters, it’s incredible because I feel like I know you all. You’ve been with me on this crazy ride! The love, loyalty and support is more than I could ever have asked for. Let’s keep being strong and show the world what we are made of.’
